We like doing business with real people and not just based on what's the lowest dollar price you can get for anything. We just liked the houses. They were well done. Hi, everybody. I'm Chuck.
I'm Janet.
We're the Kirklens. And we built a live oak D in Grayson County. Well, it all started about 12 years ago. She was looking for some property. She wanted to have a little piece of Texas.
And we were living down in Plano in the city. And one day, she said, hey, you need to come see this piece of property. So we drove up and stopped at the top of the property and looked down at this dirt road disappearing into nowhere. And I thought, OK.
So we bought it. And we've been coming out here for 12 years. We come out on the weekends. We built a barn-- have a little apartment in the back. So we'd stay on the weekends.
But a few years, ago, we finally said, if we're ever going to build a house out here, we should probably go ahead and do it. Well, we were impressed by the easy buy plan and the way they structure that. And I think given the period of time that we were looking at it, we knew it was probably going to take a while to get the house done. And so that was a really attractive option. And as far as I know, I don't know of any other builders that have that way of financing the house.
And that took a lot of pressure off during construction-- is if it drags out, you're not carrying your construction loan. That would have been really stressful, especially as the rates continued to climb up. So it was nice not worrying about that.
Yeah. Found this floor plan, the live oak that had a lot of windows across the back, which we really liked. And so then we just asked about, can we move some closets over here, can we add an office on the front, can we put more windows over here? And it was always like, oh, yeah, we can do that. We can do that. And that I think was once you realized that you could make those adjustments, you know, I'm a little bit sorry that we went through that part so fast. Maybe that would've been bad. But I could've probably thought of a few more things. But it was really great to have the opportunity to really make it like you wanted it to be and how you knew you were going to use the house. And so that was a really nice feature.
Yeah, there's no, you can only have 11 windows kind of thing. So if you want to add windows, they pull out the pen and they make the red marks. And they say, OK, we'll send that off to the drafting crew. And it happens.
So one of the fun parts about the whole deal was since it's on your property, Tilson's really good about this is your property. You get to participate and look and hang out and see things. And so the big excitement for us was coming out on foundation pour day.
And we came out here at 3:30 in the morning, set up our little canopy tent area, and got some mimosas made. And at 3:30, the trucks showed up. And we filmed them pouring our foundation.
And from the point they started, the foundation was poured. And from the point the frame went up, we would walk over here and just stand and look out what was going to be a window and go, oh, this is going to be great. You know, it's just, the whole process was fun.
Tilson people were great to work with, not just the people in the sales office but our building supervisor. They did a great job of communicating, letting us know every step of the way. Even though there were some days where nothing was happening, they told us, you know, like, well, it's probably going to be a little while before something else happens. But it was a great experience from start to finish.
Well, I have already recommended Tilson to a lot of people. People ask, who was your builder? In this part of North Texas, there are a lot of people building houses on land in places. And as you talk to different people and exchange conversations about who the builder is you're using or who you're looking at, it's always fun to get to tell people about Tilson and about how much you like them-- about-- I love Tilson's history, that they've been around for so long.
They specialize in building on land in Texas, specifically. And it's just a great story. And it's nice to feel so good about the choice that you made and be able to share that with other people.
