Austin County
Austin County was founded in 1837 and is about 90 minutes west of
Houston. Home to 29,786 residents, it is named after the “Father of Texas”
Stephen F. Austin. It features rolling hills and sprawling farmland covered in
blooming bluebonnets. Dine at a diverse selection of quaint small-town
restaurants before you head out to Stephen F. Austin State Park, where you can camp
for a getaway weekend with family and friends. The Austin County Fair and the
Summer Music Fest, among other events, bring people together each year.
