Houston County
Houston County has a smaller population of about 23,000. It is located in the quiet woods of eastern Texas, with its primary income resulting from timber and livestock. The eastern sector of the county is filled by Davy Crockett National Forest, making not only recreations in fishing and hunting ideal, but also water activities on Houston County Lake. The city of Crockett lies at its center, which has a downtown arts district, horseback riding, and hiking. There’s Lovefest in February, a fiddlers festival in June and the Grapeland Peanut Festival in October to look forward to.
