If you’re looking for a peaceful rural region with easy access to water activities, Live Oak County is the place to be. Only 12,166 people live here, and much of its land is dedicated to ranching. To the northwest, you’ll find Choke Canyon Reservoir and the Choke Canyon State Park, a great destination for camping, hiking, boating, and enjoying the beach. In the southeast is Lake Corpus Christi with a state park, where you can fish without a license. If the alligators won’t leave you alone, duck into George West for its museums and Storyfest, or Three Rivers for the Salsa Festival.
