Upshur County
Upshur County has 43,000 people. It is more than half covered by forest, and Lake Gladewater and Lake Gilmer provide hunting, fishing, scenic hiking, and a beautiful environment, especially during autumnal months. Timber is its primary economic gain, followed by dairy, vegetables, cattle, and hay. The city of Gilmer draws residents with its Yamboree in October, skating rinks, and fitness centers. Ziplining, boat tours, and dance clubs are available in Ore City to the east, and skydiving is a popular activity in Union Grove to the south.
