Gonzales County
Welcome to the site of the first shot fired in the Texas Revolution. Gonzales County has a population of about 20,000 and is about an hour from San Antonio. The shot was fired in the county’s nominal city, Gonzales, and is a subject of interest in its museums and celebrated history. The main business in the county is agriculture; it’s second in the state for cattle, poultry, and egg production. Hiking, boating, birding, and fishing are available for lovers of the outdoors at Palmetto State Park, and a public access boat ramp gives way to Lake Gonzales and Guadalupe River.
