Along the shores of Possom Kingdom Lake and Lake Palo Pinto lies Palo Pinto County.  Mineral Wells is its largest city, making up more than half of the population of 28,800.  It is famous for its hauntingly beautiful hotels that host regular ghost tours, and also has a Fossil Park – a great attraction for budding paleontologists.  For history buffs, the Old Jail Museum Complex has four perfectly restored log cabins, a carriage house with restored carriage, and many informative and fun exhibits.  Other towns and communities in the county are quite quaint, with less than 1,000 residents each.
